What it does

  • Tests RJ45 and RJ11 cables

  • Main tester with a detachable remote unit for testing an installed run single-handed

  • Sequential LED indicators, positions 1–8 plus G

Stepping through the cable one conductor at a time

  • Continuity and wire-order checking

A break, a swap or a missing conductor shows as a skipped or out-of-sequence LED

  • OFF / ON / S

Selector, where S is the slow step rate

Overview

A terminated cable either works or it does not, and when it does not, the fault is almost always the order of eight wires you crimped a minute ago. This tester answers that question in seconds. Put the main unit on one end, the remote on the other, and watch the LEDs step through the pins.

The remote detaches from the main body, so a run already pulled through a wall or across a rack can be tested end to end by one person. Both halves carry RJ45 and RJ11 jacks, so patch leads and telephone cable are both covered by the same tool.

Good for

  • Checking a patch lead straight after crimping it
  • Tracing a dead wall port before blaming the switch
  • Verifying an installed run from either end without a second person
  • Keeping in a network install kit or a bench drawer
